Canistota is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Freeman is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Canistota Hawks will take on the Freeman Flyers at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Canistota suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They were dealt a 70-31 defeat at the hands of Ethan. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Canistota has scored all season.
Freeman posted their biggest victory yet this season on Monday. They blew past Parker 65-34 at home. Given Freeman's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Parker is ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Freeman can attribute much of their success to Rylee Peters, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, and Ashlin Jacobsen, who scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals. Jacobsen has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton McCune, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Canistota now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Freeman, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Canistota lost to Freeman at home by a decisive 61-43 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Canistota, Kate Miller (who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
