Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Orange County

Orange County waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They managed a 48-42 win over the Fluvanna County Flying Flucos. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Fighting Hornets also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Orange County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Laylianah McBrayer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave McBrayer a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tayla Johnson, who posted seven points along with 15 boards and four steals.

Orange County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Fluvanna County still got an impressive performance from Ikeena Spruill, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. Spruill is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Sienna Brennan was another key player, putting up eight points.

Orange County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Fluvanna County, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11.

Orange County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-48 victory against Albemarle on the 31st. Fluvanna County has also already played their next game, a 43-25 win against Monticello on the 31st.
