Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Hampton Roads Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Catholic, falling 80-30. While losing is never fun, Hampton Roads Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Catholic is ranked third).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Abby Fiala, who scored 11 points along with two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Cape Henry Collegiate has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Cape Henry Collegiate was taken down by Hampton Roads Academy 48-19 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cape Henry Collegiate was down 34-10.
