Mulberry Grove and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Aces will take on the Bobcats in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mulberry Grove is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 60-32 loss at the hands of Hillsboro.
Despite the defeat, Mulberry Grove had strong showings from Hagan Henrichsmeyer, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Connor Hartmann, who had 13 points and seven boards. Tucker Moss also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Meanwhile, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City ended up a good deal behind Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on Tuesday and lost 78-64. Even though they lost, the Bobcats' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Mulberry Grove will have to contain Griffin Vaughn as he made an impact in Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's last game. He shot 47% from the field en route to 25 points. Vaughn continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Clive Schlanser, who put up 16 points and seven boards.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Mulberry Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mulberry Grove has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
