Great Bend is 8-2 against Liberal since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Great Bend Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Liberal Redskins at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Great Bend has three straight victories, Liberal has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Great Bend put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Garden City with a sharp 77-52 victory. Given Great Bend's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Garden City is ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Liberal had to suffer through a rough 66-32 loss at the hands of Hays.
Loss or not, Liberal got some senior leadership from Zayden Martinez and Beto Torres. Martinez scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks, while Torres. scored nine points.
Great Bend has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Liberal, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home.
Great Bend beat Liberal 70-62 when the teams last played last Friday. Does Great Bend have another victory up their sleeve, or will Liberal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
