Basketball Recap: Hoopeston Skates Past Iroquois West with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Hoopeston over Iroquois West in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hoopeston Cornjerkers blew the Iroquois West Raiders out of the water with a 69-35 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cornjerkers had established a 29 point advantage.

Hoopeston was led to victory by Nick Cardenas and Brayden Walder. Cardenas went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Walder went 5 for 10 en route to 16 points and eight assists. The dominant performance gave Cardenas a new career-high in points. Dylan Judy also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Hoopeston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Hoopeston's record is now 16-8. As for Iroquois West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoopeston has already played their next contest (against Armstrong), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Iroquois West won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gardner-South Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
