Baseball Recap: North Decatur Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

After losing to South Decatur the last time they met, North Decatur decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Chargers blew past the Cougars 10-3 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Nolan Burkhart, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of North Decatur's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Kamdenn McKinney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: North Decatur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

North Decatur is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for South Decatur, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

North Decatur and South Decatur could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Chargers will square off against Greensburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (230 vs. 61). Meanwhile, South Decatur (ranked 327th) will meet Hauser (ranked 136th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
