The Newberry Panthers posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Fort White, posting a 67-25 victory on the road. Given Newberry's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Fort White is ranked 382nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newberry was led to victory by Sarah Beaulieu and Brandy Whitfield. Beaulieu scored 21 points along with six steals and five assists, while Whitfield scored 26 points along with seven assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitfield has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Brown, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Newberry is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Fort White, they bumped their record down to 4-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Newberry won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oak Hall at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Oak Hall is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Fort White, they will be playing at home against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
