Mill Springs Academy entered their tilt with the Cottage Cougars with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mill Springs Academy narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Cottage 36-33. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Mill Springs Academy has scored all season.
Mill Springs Academy found their leader in underclassman Hampton Hill, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Hill has scored at least a third of Mill Springs Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Ryan Frommer, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson Barnes, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Barnes hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Maxwell Lagan was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Cottage were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mill Springs Academy only posted three assists.
Mill Springs Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. As for Cottage, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mill Springs Academy will take on Tapestry Charter at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Kingston Willingham and Hill. Cottage won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on January 20th. Varsity Opponent has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 18.
