Even though the Somerset Academy Key Lions scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles still came out on top. St. John Paul II Academy blew past the Lions 75-55. Given St. John Paul II Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Lions are ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. John Paul II Academy was led to victory by Dior Johnson and Bryan Jean. Johnson scored 15 points along with three steals, while Jean scored 18 points along with four blocks. Rowan Linder was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Keeshon Ramsey and Sharmah Petigny certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Ramsey dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Petigny scored 21 points. Ramsey also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Reggie Fleurissaint, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
St. John Paul II Academy now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Somerset Academy Key, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II Academy will challenge the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coconut Creek has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5. Somerset Academy Key will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st.
