Baseball Recap: St. Thomas More Gets the Win

St. Thomas More was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Shoreland Lutheran Pacers. This was a revenge game for the Cavaliers: when they faced off against the Pacers last Tuesday, they had to take a 9-5 defeat.

Austin Adamczewski made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Adamczewski was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

In other pitching news, Evan Weckman looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Carson Weist was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Brody Alivo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

St. Thomas More now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Shoreland Lutheran, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Thomas More will head out to square off against St. Joseph at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cavaliers 3.4, the Lancers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Shoreland Lutheran, they will venture away from home to face off against Lakeside Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pacers surely won't give up without a fight.
