Waynesville took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Archbishop Alter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Knights 7-5. This was a revenge game for the Spartans: when they faced off against the Knights back in March, they had to take a 7-0 defeat.

Kellen Philpot and Ben Freese did most of the damage at the plate: Philpot went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Freese got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Philpot has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Jackson Garner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Waynesville's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Archbishop Alter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waynesville will take on Miami Trace at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Archbishop Alter, they will challenge Bishop Fenwick at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
