SouthWest Edgecombe is 1-9 against Farmville Central since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Farmville Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully SouthWest Edgecombe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
SouthWest Edgecombe unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak. They fell just short of Fike by a score of 46-44. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points SouthWest Edgecombe has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, SouthWest Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: K'Deidra (KD) Collins scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Moore Mackenzie, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Farmville Central was the victim of a rough 62-40 loss at the hands of Northeastern on Wednesday. Farmville Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Carma Wright, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Kaydien Joyner, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
SouthWest Edgecombe's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. As for Farmville Central, they bumped their record down to 2-2 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: SouthWest Edgecombe have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.4% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Farmville Central, though, as they've only nailed 34.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
SouthWest Edgecombe beat Farmville Central 61-48 in their previous meeting back in February. Will SouthWest Edgecombe repeat their success, or does Farmville Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
