The Shorewood Stormrays will challenge the Shorecrest Scots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shorewood will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Shorewood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Lynnwood with a sharp 14-2 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Stormrays in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won six in a row.
Aaron James looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Calan Sporn was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Cole Gillingham, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Shorewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Shorecrest's offense. They fell just short of Snohomish by a score of 2-0 on Monday. The Scots' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Shorecrest also got a good showing from Oliver Verdoes, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Shorecrest saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooks Murray, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Murray is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Shorewood pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Shorecrest, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Shorewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shorecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Shorewood couldn't quite finish off Shorecrest in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Shorewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
