The Rock Creek Academy Lions came tearing into Thursday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Mt. Vernon as Rock Creek Academy made off with a 60-39 win.
Rock Creek Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aleeyah Brown, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Rylan Byars, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon still got an impressive performance from Arlissa Sharber, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Rainey, who scored six points.
Rock Creek Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Creek Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Orleans at 7:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Hopefully Orleans focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against Gibson Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gibson Southern has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 900 points over their last 14 matches.
