The NorthWood Panthers will take on the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, NorthWood came up short against Mishawaka and fell 9-4.
Natalia Vega was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Victoria Vega was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Plymouth sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Wawasee on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pilgrims/Rockies.
Gracie Patrick made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Patrick wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haylee Busse, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Plymouth hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.
NorthWood's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Plymouth, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Plymouth's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: NorthWood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. It's a different story for Plymouth, though, as they've only averaged .353. Will they be able to contain NorthWood's hitters?
Everything went NorthWood's way against Plymouth when the teams last played two weeks ago, as NorthWood made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Pilgrims/Rockies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
