Kyra Cavender and Meesha Neujahr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cavender struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Neujahr struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Cavender has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Cavender got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Neujahr got on base in two of her three plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Neujahr has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Emma Neujahr was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn McGee, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Oasis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bishop Verot has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit two weeks ago. They came up short against Doral Academy, falling 11-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Firebirds: they've now lost three in a row.
McKenna Robbins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Oasis moved to 13-12 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Bishop Verot, their loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oasis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bishop Verot struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Oasis suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Bishop Verot when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Sharks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
