The Derby Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Maize South Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Derby scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat South 76-20 at home. That 76-20 margin sets a new team best for Derby this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Derby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dallas Metzger, who scored 14 points. The match was Metzger's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Franklin, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Maize South had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Newton, posting a 79-42 win at home.
The victory makes it two in a row for Derby and bumps their season record up to 2-2. As for Maize South, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.
Derby came up short against Maize South in their previous meeting back in February, falling 53-47. Thankfully for Derby, Jaylen Maze (who scored 22 points along with six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
