The Henrietta Bearcats will take on the Jacksboro Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Henrietta has given up an average of 29.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Henrietta and City View have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Bearcats were dealt a 51-19 defeat at the hands of the Mustangs.
Despite the loss, Henrietta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cruse Coleman rushed for 172 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Coleman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards.
Meanwhile, Jacksboro had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They really took it to the Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-7 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.
Henrietta better keep an eye on Wyatt Gavit. He was instrumental in Jacksboro's win, throwing for 342 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt. Gavit has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise. Jacksboro's leading receiver Isaac Wesson was Gavit's top target yet again, picking up 117 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Jacksboro, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kase Dennis, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Jacksboro's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Henrietta, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Henrietta has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 401.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Jacksboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 397.7 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Henrietta was taken down by Jacksboro 60-17 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gavit, who threw for 410 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 83 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries. Now that the Bearcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
