SANFORD, N.C. - the Cavaliers scored 17 points in the second quarter to secure a big 31-6 victory over
Westover (Fayetteville, N.C.) on Saturday.
Southern Lee scored two touchdowns on passing plays during the quarter, boosted by two receptions by
Aaron Blockmon.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Ethan Helmsman in the first quarter, SL was up 24-6 at the half.
The Sanford school grew its lead to 25 points entering the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers' lone score in the quarter came on a
Patrick Bunnell touchdown run.
Westover's lone touchdown came on a 2-yard run by
Derrick Fitts in the second quarter.
Southern Lee has had a rough season, allowing 37.5 points per game. But SL tightened up and held the Wolverines below their season average of 9.4 points per game.
In a 3A Conference 12 game next week Southern Lee (3-6) takes on Terry Sanford, and Westover (0-9) will go up against Lee County also in a 3A Conference 12 game.
