The North Smithfield Northmen put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They escaped with a win against Pilgrim by the margin of a single free throw, 31-30. Given North Smithfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Pilgrim is ranked 29th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mya Silveira was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Raeghan Reilly, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
North Smithfield's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Pilgrim, they have fallen quite a ways from their 18-7 record last season and are now at 2-6.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Toll Gate the next time they take the court. North Smithfield will head out to face Toll Gate at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while Pilgrim will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
