Halls is a perfect 10-0 against Oak Ridge since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Red Devils will host the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Halls is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Halls is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Green Hill, who was ranked third at the time (Halls was ranked seventh). The Red Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 4-2. That's two games straight that the Red Devils have won by exactly two runs.
Atiana Stamper looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Halls' victory was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Makaylie Hutchison, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Rockwood a 13-0 shutout. The Wildcats not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th.
Emmerson Bradshaw made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Oak Ridge got a big performance out of Gloria Rust, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Rust a new career-high. Morgan Perry was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Oak Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Oak Ridge's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Halls, their victory bumped their record up to 23-4-1.
Oak Ridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Halls has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Oak Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Halls keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Halls took their win against Oak Ridge when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
