Two dominant guards in Leighton Williams and Jaden Sherwood are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wheatland-Chili Wildcats will be playing at home against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Wheatland-Chili has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell to Pembroke 59-55.
Wheatland-Chili's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaden Schwenebraten, who scored 28 points, and Williams who scored 22 points. That was a full 40% of Wheatland-Chili's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Webber 69-35 on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-17.
Ryan Fitzpatrick was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Sherwood was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Wheatland-Chili's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Notre Dame, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Wheatland-Chili hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.7 points per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Wheatland-Chili and Notre Dame were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but Wheatland-Chili came up empty-handed after a 63-62 loss.
