The Umatilla Bulldogs had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past Forest Lake Academy with a 44-39 victory. This was payback for Umatilla, who suffered a 63-13 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Umatilla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emalee Duncan, who scored 13 points along with 5 steals and 4 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Herva Brutus, who scored 9 points along with 18 rebounds and 7 steals.
Umatilla's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Forest Lake Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Umatilla will be playing in front of their home fans against Mount Dora at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Forest Lake Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake Minneola at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Lake Minneola focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Tuesday.
