The Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns fell victim to the Newman Greenies''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Greenies at home and fell 35-0. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Metairie Park Country Day in their matchups with Newman: they've now lost five in a row.
Leading Newman to victory were Will Loerzel and Eli Friend. Loerzel rushed for 29 yards and two touchdowns, while Friend rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown. Jack Nesser got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Metairie Park Country Day's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-2 Northlake Christian and 5-3 Episcopal (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71% over those games). As for Newman, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Metairie Park Country Day will take on St. Charles Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Charles Catholic will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line. As for Newman, they will be playing in front of their home fans against King Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. King Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Newman is ranked 20th).
