For the first time this season, Kennedy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the Bruce Randolph Grizzlies at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Kennedy turned things around against Hinkley on Thursday. They never let the Thunder get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Commanders not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.
Eric Valenzuela made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Valenzuela was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Adrian Montoya was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Damian Ortiz was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bruce Randolph). Everything went their way against Denver West on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Cowboys recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Allan Nunez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Issac Varela, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Bruce Randolph, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
