After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Foundation Christian Academy, the American Youth Academy Eagles were happy to have found some success on Monday. They managed a 57-53 win over American Collegiate Academy. For American Youth Academy, this counts as revenge for the 63-14 loss the Rough Riders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
American Youth Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Radi Mohammad, who scored 20 points. It was the first time this season that Mohammad scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Waleed Khawaja, who scored 15 points.
American Collegiate Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeremis Lopez, who scored 17 points along with five steals. It was the first time this season that Lopez scored 15 or more points. Zaire Smith was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
American Youth Academy's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for American Collegiate Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-6.
American Youth Academy will stay at home for another game and welcome the at 4:30 p.m. on January 31st. American Collegiate Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Ascenders at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st.
