On Thursday, the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls faced the Punahou Buff n' Blue in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mid-Pacific Institute took a 63-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Punahou. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mid-Pacific Institute of the 63-41 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture two weeks ago.
Mid-Pacific Institute's loss came despite strong showings from Darius Chizer and Jarek Yee. Chizer scored 18 points along with two steals, while Yee scored 14 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Tyson Norr, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Mid-Pacific Institute dropped their record down to 11-17 with that loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Punahou, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Mid-Pacific Institute will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Louis at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. St. Louis will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Punahou does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
