South is 10-0 against Eastmoor Academy since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The South Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Eastmoor Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. South will be strutting in after a victory while Eastmoor Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
South had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 65-32 win over West. Given South's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while West is ranked 489th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lajames Washington, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Mccall, who scored 16 points.
Eastmoor Academy suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 74-52 loss to Africentric Early College might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Eastmoor Academy in their matchups with Africentric Early College: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the defeat, Eastmoor Academy saw an underclassman step up: Stephon Simpkins scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Simpkins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. King Moody was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three blocks and two steals.
South's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Eastmoor Academy, they bumped their record down to 5-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. South hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 62.2 points per game. However, it's not like Eastmoor Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 60.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything went South's way against Eastmoor Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as South made off with a 68-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
