The Mississinewa Indians will venture away from home to take on the Frankton Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mississinewa took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Leo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions on Saturday, sneaking past 11-10.
Leyton Stearns was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Jasper Baledge was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mississinewa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Frankton waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Warriors 13-3. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Jarrett Morris and Caine Oakley did most of the damage at the plate: Morris went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Oakley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Oakley is becoming a predictor of Frankton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Frankton pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mississinewa, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Mississinewa skirted past Frankton 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
