After a string of three wins, the Sterling Classical Soldiers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Grace Academy by a score of 35-32. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sterling Classical has scored all season.
Several Soldiers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tucker Reavis, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Ely McClung was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Grace Academy found their leader in underclassman Richmond McIver, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which McIver has scored at least 25% of Grace Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Martin, who scored nine points.
Sterling Classical's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2. As for Grace Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Sterling Classical has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Memorial Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Memorial Christian Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 18. Grace Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Texas Wind at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Texas Wind is ranked 1031st, while Grace Academy is ranked 1033rd).
