The Homestead Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Milpitas Trojans at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Homestead will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Homestead will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Los Gatos, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
While Homestead won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 27-25, 25-21.
Homestead relied on the efforts of Selina Wang, who had five digs and three aces, and Natalie Chen, who had 19 digs and eight assists. That's the most aces Wang has posted over her last six contests.
Meanwhile, Milpitas suffered their biggest defeat since September 29th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Los Gatos.
Milpitas was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Los Gatos work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-20.
Homestead will need to focus on slowing down Varadha Biju, one of several Milpitas players who made an impact when they last played. She had nine assists and three aces.
Homestead's victory bumped their record up to 23-7. As for Milpitas, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8.
Everything went Homestead's way against Milpitas in their previous meeting back in September, as Homestead made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
