The Waltrip Rams will head out to challenge the Westbury Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Waltrip is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
On Friday, Waltrip was able to grind out a solid victory over Galena Park, taking the game 44-37.
Waltrip's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James 'Jimmy' Haren, who threw for 190 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground. The Rams' leading receiver Lil Eric Norris was Haren's top target yet again, picking up 111 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Waltrip didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Justin Henry.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Westbury sidestepped Spring Woods for a 25-22 victory.
Waltrip better keep an eye on Jefferson Rivas Hernandez. He was instrumental in Westbury's win, rushing for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 149 rushing yards gave Rivas Hernandez a new career-high.
Westbury was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.
Waltrip's record is now 5-1. As for Westbury, their record now sits at 6-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Waltrip has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Westbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging 158 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Waltrip came up short against Westbury in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 18-14. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
