The Bishop Verot Vikings won the last time they faced the Gateway Charter Griffins, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Bishop Verot walked away with a 39-26 victory over Gateway Charter. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Gateway Charter is ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cameron O'halloran continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Caroline Ward was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five steals.
Loss or not, Gateway Charter got some senior leadership from Emily Salas and Alisea Doan. Salas scored eight points along with three steals, while Doan. scored six points along with four steals and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Doan posted two or more blocks.
Bishop Verot has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season. As for Gateway Charter, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Verot will take on North Port at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gateway Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against LaBelle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. LaBelle has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
