Guilford has gone 9-1 against Rockford Auburn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Vikings will face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Guilford will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Guilford is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Harvard with a sharp 25-5 win on Thursday.
Benjamin King made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1. That hit was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Maddux Lee was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Riley Kegley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Rockford Auburn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 29th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 12-8 to Rochelle.
Rockford Auburn saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Velez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another was Jack Weston, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Rockford Auburn's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Guilford, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Rockford Auburn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Guilford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Rockford Auburn, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Guilford's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Guilford took their win against Rockford Auburn in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
