Even though the Wakefield Wolverines have not done well against the Millbrook Wildcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Wakefield enjoyed a cozy 61-42 victory over the Wildcats. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Wildcats are ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wakefield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lyla Bagwell led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddison Mcintyre, who scored four points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Millbrook saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Brown scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season.
Wakefield has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Millbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-14.
Wakefield will be playing in front of their home fans against the Huskies at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Heritage has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20. As for Millbrook, they will head out on the road to challenge the Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Knightdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
