Basketball Recap: Tate Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Keontrez Montgomery and Marcus Cooper

Tate was the 63-53 winner over Pensacola when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Tate Aggies fell 70-62 to the Pensacola Tigers on Tuesday. The Aggies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Marcus Cooper and Keontrez Montgomery certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Cooper dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards, while Montgomery posted 16 points along with six assists and five boards. With that strong performance, Montgomery is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Kyle Shirley was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Tate smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Pensacola's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AG Floyd, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Jones, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Tate now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Pensacola, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Tate didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-47 defeat against Niceville on the 12th. As for Pensacola, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 41-23 loss against Foley on the 12th.
