The San Ysidro Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Francis Parker Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. San Ysidro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15.4 runs per game this season.
San Ysidro had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Castle Park on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Isabella Ulloa was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Ulloa was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Sophia Maldonado was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julia Rosales, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
San Ysidro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are 12-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Francis Parker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Tri-City Christian, falling 24-1.
Amelia Antczak made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Francis Parker's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for San Ysidro, their record now sits at 13-7.
Francis Parker's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: San Ysidro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .594. It's a different story for Francis Parker, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain San Ysidro's hitters?
San Ysidro took their victory against Francis Parker in their previous meeting back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 12-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
