Softball Recap: Raleigh-Egypt Comes Up Short

Raleigh-Egypt dropped their record down to 3-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Brighton Cardinals, falling 15-0. The Pharaohs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Brighton, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 15-9-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Brighton's part, Myla Gross was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Gross has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Braelynn Scott and Sydney Kirby did most of the damage at the plate: Scott got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Kirby went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Kirby a new career-high. Kaitlyn Kikawa also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Raleigh-Egypt will square off against Millington Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Brighton, they will challenge Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
