Stevenson hasn't had much luck against Mundelein recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Patriots will square off against the Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. Stevenson is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.
If Stevenson beats Mundelein with seven runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Patriots walked away with a 7-4 victory over Taft on Saturday.
Stevenson got a great performance from Samantha Gotschewski as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Gotschewski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aubrey Jepson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sara Saiki was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Mundelein unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Zion-Benton by a score of 7-6.
Emily Courtney was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kieley Tomas, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Stevenson's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Mundelein, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stevenson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Mundelein struggles in that department as they've averaged .366. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stevenson came up short against Mundelein in their previous matchup back in April, falling 4-1. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
