Western Athletic Conference recap October 1, 2013
Livingston fell to Central Catholic 65-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cole Brown was a bright spot for the Wolves, as he threw for 45 yards in the defeat.
Pacheco made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,357 from 5,764. The improvement was largely due to a 29-7 victory over Central Valley last week.
The Raiders' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Donovin Townsend threw for 110 yards and Timmy Gutierrez had 72 yards receiving. On the ground Matt Ringer contributed 118 yards.
Central Catholic's dynamic duo of Townsend and Gutierrez proved tough for Livingston to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Brad Bussard provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ceres lost to Los Banos. He completed 15 passes for 144 yards and also ran for 6 yards. Bussard's favorite target this week was Dylan Canatsy, who caught 6 passes for 69 yards.
The Bulldogs' Bussard and Canatsy have formed a dream team this season, leading Western Athletic Conference in both passing and receiving yards. Bussard has thrown for 1,596 yards this season, while Canatsy, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 51 catches for 769 yards. Roger Canepa's team's Ringer leads the league in rushing yards with 846.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Ceres' Canatsy goes up against Chris Lacey's team's Anthony Deol.
Next week's game between Bret Durossette's team and the Wolves will feature a good passing match up as Bussard will test his arm against Deol's defensive ability.
The Panthers are in second place, while the Raiders are in fourth place.
Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week by notching 65 points on Livingston. Townsend during the win.
