Basketball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

Franklin Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were beaten by the Holly Springs Golden Hawks 89-59 on Thursday. The Patriots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-23.

Franklin Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Rutledge, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. Rutledge is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayes Lewis, who had 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Franklin Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Franklin Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Holly Springs, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Franklin Academy will head out to take on Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. on December 27th. Franklin Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season. As for Holly Springs, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-41 defeat against Northwood on the 21st.
