Two dominant guards in Rylea Wetz and Ava Burkle are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Seeger Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rossville Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Seeger focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Seeger beat North Montgomery 32-26. The win was just what Seeger needed coming off of a 56-31 defeat in their prior match.
It was another big night for Wetz, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Addie Shrader, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Rossville unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost to Clinton Central on the road by a decisive 45-30 margin. Rossville has not had much luck with Clinton Central recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Rossville saw an underclassman step up: Burkle scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Burkle is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played.
Rossville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Seeger's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7. As for Rossville, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Seeger have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Rossville, though, as they've been averaging only 28.7 rebounds per game. Given Seeger's sizeable advantage in that area, Rossville will need to find a way to close that gap.
Seeger was able to grind out a solid victory over Rossville in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 53-41. Does Seeger have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rossville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
