Erskine Academy is a perfect 7-0 against Maine Central Institute since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Erskine Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Belfast 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Lions since April 27, 2016.
Erskine Academy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Hayden, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Erskine Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belfast struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Maine Central Institute had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Penquis Valley 15-5 on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Huskies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Brayden Badger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Caleb Kennedy was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Koda Knox, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Erskine Academy's record now sits at 2-9-1. As for Maine Central Institute, their record is now 2-8.
Maine Central Institute's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Erskine Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Maine Central Institute, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Erskine Academy keep running through batters, or will the Huskies buck the trend?
Erskine Academy took their victory against Maine Central Institute in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
