Basketball Recap: Norwayne Extends Winning Streak to Three

Norwayne had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They took down the Garfield Rams 56-38. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Rams are ranked 479th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Norwayne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hannah Froelich, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Another player making a difference was Ava Maibach, who posted 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.

Norwayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Norwayne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Garfield, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norwayne will venture away from home to take on Chippewa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Garfield, they will head out to challenge Buchtel at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Garfield is facing Buchtel at the right time seeing as Buchtel is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
