After a string of 11 wins, the Richford Falcons's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Williamstown. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Evan Bailey was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists for Williamstown. That makes it six consecutive games in which Bailey has scored at least a third of Williamstown's points. Another player making a difference was Nick Mascitti, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Richford's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3. As for Williamstown, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richford will take on Winooski at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Winooski likes a good challenge. As for Williamstown, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Oxbow at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Vermont (Oxbow is ranked 50th, while Williamstown is ranked 27th).
