The Nelson County Governors''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Gretna at home and fell 55-7. Nelson County has struggled against Gretna recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Melvin Wooden continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gretna, throwing for 163 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Moon, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Nelson County's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Gretna, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Nelson County will head out on the road to face off against Altavista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gretna, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chatham at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chatham will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Gretna is ranked 106th).
