Shenendehowa is 8-2 against Columbia since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Plainsmen will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m. Columbia took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Shenendehowa, who comes in off a win.
If Shenendehowa beats Columbia with nine runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Plainsmen were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Averill Park on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Plainsmen in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won eight in a row.
Zachary Milano looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Amaar Bhusri, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Blake Morse, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Columbia fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Saratoga Springs on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 9-4 to the Blue Streaks. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Blue Streaks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Quinlan Finnigan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Jackson Stilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Shenendehowa now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Columbia, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shenendehowa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Shenendehowa took their win against Columbia when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Do the Plainsmen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
