The Homestead Mustangs's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They had just enough and edged Monta Vista out 2-1. Given Homestead's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Monta Vista is ranked 614th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Homestead was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Daniel Morrissey and
Owen Gibbs, who scored both of Homestead's goals. The pair have combined for a total of eight so far this season.
Homestead now has a winning record of 9-8-2. As for Monta Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homestead will take on Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monta Vista, they will look to defend their home pitch on Wednesday against Milpitas at 7:00 p.m. Milpitas will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Monta Vista surely won't give up without a fight.
