Grandview hasn't had much luck against Othello recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The two teams will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 11:00 a.m. Grandview has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Grandview came up short against Ephrata on Saturday, falling 13-6.
Aiden Mendoza put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Mendoza wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ivan Mendoza, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Othello waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 4-0 shutout.
Aiden Garza tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rjay Garza, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
Othello pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grandview, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grandview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Othello struggles in that department as they've averaged .548. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grandview suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Othello in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
